St. Thomas Aquinas of Kansas was named the top-ranked team in the final NSCAA/adidas High School Boys National Rankings after beating Bishop Miege, 2-0, in the Kansas 5A state championship game.

LAWRENCE | Kansas sophomore guard Travis Releford, who decided last week to redshirt this season, said Monday that he felt "very close" to cracking the playing rotation this year.
"I'll make an impact on the team next year for sure," Releford said.
Releford might as well have redshirted last season, when he averaged just 7 minutes per game.

For the second straight season the Baldwin High School football team played its bi-district playoff game here.
This year's showdown between the Bulldogs (2-8) and Bishop Miege Stags (8-2) was one sided — not in favor of BHS.
The Stags avenged a 33-18 loss from 2008 with a 62-0 rout of the Bulldogs Tuesday night.

The Lions were kept out of the net the whole way, however, and the Stags won 2-0 to claim the championship in their bracket of the 5A Northeast Region and advance to the state quarterfinals.

Behind the running of Page Miller, the Pittsburg High School girls' cross country team finished third at the Class 5A regional cross country meet at Bonner Springs and qualified for the state meet next weekend.
As St. Thomas Aquinas swept the first seven individual places, Miller was eighth in a time of 16 minutes, 16.32 seconds and Hannah Carrier was 15th overall in 17:00.86.
Jacobi Spresser finished 19th individually in 17:20.63 and McKenzie Spresser, Emilee Beitzinger and Alesha Edwards placed 21st

St. Mary's is the champion of the Lone Jack Tournament and may have secured the No. 1 seed in the Class District 14 Tournament.
Jessica Holder had 32 kills and Shauna Bauml 26 as the Trojans Saturday split with Knob Noster 23-25, 25-22 and defeated Sweet Springs 25-11, 25-17 in pool play.
